About Us
THE HONG KONG GIRL GUIDES ASSOCIATION
Girl Guides Association is one of the uniformed groups in Hong Kong and is also the largest female organization in the territory. We have a membership of more than 50,000 of which most of them are girls and young women. Guiding was introduced into Hong Kong in 1916. The Association was then an oversea branch of the Girl Guides Association of UK. Guiding in Hong Kong soon developed steadily and units were set up in various schools and youth organizations. In 1978, the Association was independent from the UK and became an Associate Member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).
It was in 1981 that the Association became a Full Member of WAGGGS.Guiding provides non-formal educational programmes to our young members at their leisure or as an extra-curricular activity in school. The approach is one based on fun and activities. Beside skills learning, physical fitness and outdoors activities, the programmes also incorporate trainings to enhance their personal development and interpersonal relationship. At the same time, members will have ample opportunities to participate in community services. It is hoped that these varieties of activities will enable girls to attain new knowledge and enhance their personal development.
For our adult members, the Association provides various trainings on Guiding knowledge and leadership development to equip them with the expertise to be a Guider or a Commissioner. Those trainings aim to enhance their personal development as well.As Guiding is an international activity, members have the opportunity to visit different countries to participate in their international events, such as conferences, camping activities, seminars, trainings and etc. Not only will they be able to acquire information of these countries and meet friends of different nationalities, their perspective on international issues will also be broadened.
